The Temazcal: Returning to the Womb of the Earth

When you enter a temazcal for the first time, your body knows before your mind does. The heat, the darkness, the copal activate something deep and ancient. The temazcal is the womb of Mother Earth. The volcanic stones, which we call the grandmothers, are the heartbeat at the center. Entering is a symbolic death. Exiting is a rebirth.
